This is a review for the 2007 Honda Accord 4-cylinder EX Sedan. I have roughly 11K miles on this car, and it is my favorite 4 door sedan in its category. Note that I have driven the Toyota Camry, Nissan Altima, Hyundai Sonata and Chevy Malibu, which are all good competitors in the same class, but none of them offer the complete package in terms of ride quality, comfort, reliability, attention to detail, and fun-to-drive aspects that the Accord does.
The exterior is reminiscent of some late model Oldsmobile and Saturn sedans, but it is sharpened with a couple of diagonal lines in the front and rear lights, as well as the rear pillars. The LED brake-lights are a nice touch. The EX comes with standard alloy wheels and moonroof. Inside, the driver’s seat has power adjustment (the passenger side does not). The seat has adjustable lumbar support and a wide arm rest that can be adjusted fore and aft. There are 4 cup holders in front, 4 in the rear seats. The cockpit has electroluminescent gauges, which helps reduce the affects of sunglare. The steering wheel has controls for the radio and cruise control, which are very convenient. The HVAC stack is easy to use, with buttons for adjusting the ventilation, and dials for adjusting the temperature and fan speed. The radio comes with a 6 CD changer that does not play MP3s. The car is also missing an aux input or an ipod connector, which is an unfortunate oversight. All buttons and controls in the cockpit have a high quality feel and look. There is ample storage space for maps, garage door openers and CDs in the various cubbies throughout the front seats. The rear seats are large and comfortable for long haul trips. There is a fold out armrest in the center of the seat. There is no rear air vent, however, there is a ventilation port underneath the passenger and driver’s seat that directs air from the AC unit to the rear seats.
The 4cylinder EX gives out 160 horsepower, which is plenty of power for passing and getting on to the freeway, with only the driver and a front seat passenger. With 4 adults on board, it may be a little slow and heavy. However, as a typical family cruiser for 2 adults and 2 young children, it’s perfectly adequate. The ride quality is smooth, but not cloudy/fluffy like in a Ford Taurus or Cadillac. Road noise tends to be on the noisier side compared to other mid-size sedans, however it is not annoying. Gas mileage is superb, averaging around 24-25 mpg per fill up in mixed city/highway driving. I have had highway-only jaunts where I have achieved 39 mpg.
The trunk is cavernous, about the same size as other mid-size sedans. The rear seats do fold down to create more hauling space, and the rear arm rest open to create a pass-through for carrying long items, such as skis and garden tools. However, the seats do not fold 60/40 as in other comparable sedans, which is somewhat unfortunate.
Overall, I am very satisfied with my Honda Accord Sedan. It is the perfect blend of comfort, reliability and good driving experience. It may be more expensive by a couple hundred dollars compared to the competition, but I think it’s well worth it.
