Until mid-2008 I owned a 1996 Corolla. I had been thinking about replacing it for almost a year when this one came on the market. I am so happy with the upgrade (in addition to a newer model, I also went from a DX to an LX). For those of you who have not ever owned a Toyota or for those who have owned an older model like me, allow me to elaborate on some of my favorite changes: 1) LEG ROOM. I am only 5'8" but have very long legs and many compact cars' seats do not go back far enough for me. Fortunately this new seat not only goes back far enough but it also adjust the seat to fit better under my legs for long car trips. As for leg room in the back seat, all of me passengers have said how much room was in the back for such a small car. 2) INTUITIVE FEATURES. By that I mean, almost anyone can get into this car and within 5 minutes have most of the car understood. The instrument panel, electronics in the car, wipers, lights, cruise, etc. are all very easy to read and use. I have always appreciated this about Toyotas, but was glad to see that it has not changed. 3) EASE OF CARE. Aside from the wonderful gas mileage this car provides, it is so reliable. Granted, I am speaking from past experience as much as I am on this car since this one has only been around for a year, but I can say that Toyota dealerships and independent repair shops alike are always happy to see me coming. Even under the hood, Toyota has made a product that is easy to understand at first glance. 4) LIGHTS and HIGH BEAMS. I just finished riding in this car with my mother, who is the proud owner of a 2002 Honda Accord, and she was AMAZED at how far my lights shone in the dark. (Her car was recently hit by a deer while driving so this issue has become acutely important to her). She believes that my regular driving lights extend almost as far as her brights go, and my brights blow her car out of the water. Not usually the thing you generally consider when purchasing a car, but from a safety point of view it's priceless.
I'm not sure that I have any majors cons to this car. I do notice that the accelerator and brakes are more sensitive in this car than others I have driven but I think alot of that will be operator adjustments!
I would highly recommend this car to anyone looking for a new vehicle. Families would like it because the backseat is easily large enough for carseats and small children, but I just love it for one person too. The new styling on the car is just great; I cannot say enough about it.
Happy car hunting!
