The Sequel

I lost my 1999 Ford Mustang to a cell phone driver last year, so I went out looking for a replacement. I already had two Ford Mustang hats, so I figured it would make sense to stick with my pony car. I mean, I’d look ridiculous wearing a Mustang cap, while driving a Chevy, right? So anyway, I set my sights on the 06’s and later. I found what I was looking for in a 2007.

The styling on the 05’s and later is significantly different than my 99, but still easily recognizable as a Mustang. As with the 99, I wasn’t immediately sold on the new look, but I grew to like it. By the time I was in the market to buy one, I was pretty much sold on the latest style. It has a nice retro, yet updated feel. The instrument panel has a cool new look with the “metal” trim work. The seating is comfortable, but like any other Mustang, the back seat is for coats.

I found on the newer Mustangs, there are some cool new standard features. Mustang doors don’t have a frame over the top of the window, so the window can’t fit securely against the frame of the car when closed (which is how thieves were able to easily pry my window open). But the newer Mustangs have a feature called Auto Express Up. This lowers the window slightly when you open the door to clear the frame, then raises it when the door is closed. Essentially, the window “ducks” when the door is opened, then slides snuggly up into the door jamb for a better fit. The windows also lower and raise completely with one click.

Another feature is the stereo which plays mp3’s off of data CD’s. That means, instead of burning one album on a CD, I can copy several folders of songs onto a disc and play them in my car. The player can navigate through folders like a disc changer and can even read tags in your music to reveal artists and titles. There is also a Line In plug hidden in the console to connect your mp3 player or phone so you can listen to music that way.

Traction control is also standard now, which allows for much better handling in snow and wet conditions than my previous Mustang. Before, every winter it felt like I was doing the electric slide on street, but fishtailing is practically nonexistent now.

I bought another V6, but there has been an increase in horsepower by about 30, I believe, and it’s quite noticeable. Most people prefer the V8, but I’m not racing, and gas is still pricey. I’m just trying to get to work on time, so the V6 works well for me.

So far, I really like this car. I haven’t had any trouble with it, the new look is sleek and sporty, and it comes with a lot of great standard features. Overall, I would highly recommend it anyone looking for an affordable sports car.

Just looking @ an ' 08 online and had heard that traction control was added a few years back, but didn't believe it! Had a '95 and a '98 (totaled the 95 and wasn't done playing yet) but live in PA. and snow and Mustangs don't mix!! The ' 98 was a great car and made me a better winter driver, but sadly she started nickle and diming me and had to trade her in! Traded her in on "03 Monte!! Silver Grandma Car!! But... The Best Driving and handling car I ever have driven, all because of the traction control!! Love It !! I had given up on ever having another mustang untill I was told they also now have traction control! Just wondering if you find it as helpful in the inclimate weather as I do with the Monte? I will never own another vehicle without T C! If infact, the newer Mustangs have the T C I will be, yet again, an owner of a Mustang!! Thanks for letting me ramble and for letting me know (cause I wouldn't have even considered it again) that traction control IS on the newer Mustangs!
