I own a 1997 BMW 328i and have had it for about 1 year now. It currently has 184,000 miles and is showing some signs of its' age, but not much! It is still very fast and comfortable, all the bells and whistles work, including the power heated seats, the onboard computer, the 6 disc cd changer. It has all the amenities I could want in a car and even though it is "only" the 3 series, the starter model range for beemers, it is still fast and luxurious and lots of fun to drive. I have a 5-speed manual transmission and in any driving circumstance, it is always a cinch to find the proper gear to make this vehicle do exactly what I want it to to. I used to own a 7 series, which was a great car but a real money pit. The 3-series is much more economical but still has all the characteristics of a classic bmw - no car that I have owned seems to have the combination of characteristics of the ride where as a highway cruiser it soaks up the road and is very comfortable, but when you want to, or need to, push it for necessary acceleration, or just for fun in rounding a tight curve, it absolutely grabs the road like no other vehicle. It is a little small (I am 6' tall) and it could use a bit more legroom, but with the power seats, it is always a cinch to find a perfectly comfortable seating position. Some day, I may move up to a 5-series, but I will definitely always look for a stick shift, because they are just so much more enjoyable to drive. There is just nothing like a beemer - I hate to mimic a well known commercial ad campaign, but really, it is the ultimate driving machine - German engineering at its' finest, without a doubt!
