I have absolutely loved owning my 2004 BMW X5. I have owned many other SUV's, including a Jeep Cherokee, a Jeep Grand Cherokee, an Oldsmoible Bravada, a GMC Envoy and a Jeep Liberty. My BMW X5 surpasses all of these cars in every way. It has exceptional fuel efficiency for an SUV. I find that my average is roughly 22 miles to the gallon. Compared to the 11 miles to the gallon with the Envoy, this is a fantastic savings. I also have found that my acceration i is far superior to any other SUV I have owned. The power that this engine is capable of makes passing other cars, particularly on hills, far easier.Additionally, the steering and brakes are very tight, making this an easy vehicle to control and drive, because I have great control over it. The overall styling makes this a very elegant car.
In more pro's for this car, I'd have to add in the 'special features'. Having Sirius satellite in my car is wonderful benefit for long car trips. Additionally, the BMW built in navigation system is a huge plus. I have used the GPS system so many times that it's been worth its weight in gold. My mother and I drove this car cross country, between Arizona and Maine, and the GPS navigated us the entire way without any missed turns or issues. That's 3000 miles of traveling, worry free! Most importantly, the BMW roadside assistance program (which comes with your car) is a godsend. I slid off the road one icy morning in Maine, and landed up listing far to one side in a snow bank. I pressed my BMW roadside assistance button and they were able to contact help for me very quickly. I appreciated that I was not just a number to them. When I pressed the call button, I was greeted by name and asked how the operator could be of assistance. It was a friendly voice in an unsettling situation. That service alone is well worth the price of this car.
On the cons side, I would just have to add in a few items: The BMW X5 that I purchased only came equipped with 'sport series' tires. These are great if you're driving for performance based travel, but it really should come with All Season tires, being an SUV. This was an extra expense we had to shoulder. Also, there isn't a great deal of storage space in the 'way back'. It's adequate, but about the same size as my former Jeep Liberty, which was a smaller SUV overall. I believe a larger trunk area would be very helpful. Finally, I'd have to say that the rear back up lights are dreadful. I am glad to have the parking sensors (which beep when the driver gets close to anything) because the visibility is poor when backing up at night.
Overall, this is a car I would highly recommend. I have absolutely loved owning my BMW X5, and it's been a true luxury for me. It feels sporty, elegant and chic, and yet it is still a practical car for a busy mother. Additionally, BMW provides top the line service at their service centers. I have been treated like a Queen from beginning to end of every visit. This is not only a car I would buy another of, but would recommend to anyone looking for a luxury SUV.
