Hyndai Accent is a sub-compact car launched in 1995 as a replacement for Hyundai Excel. The r&d concept led its production in 3 phases. It was globally launched with slight name anomalies like retaining the name Hyundai Excel withal Hyundai Pony. The assembly was done in South Korea. Initially, the strategy to make it as a globally accepted sedan was lurking in its low price tag with apparently appreciating features and performance. It soon became the 3rd best selling car in the US.The phenomenol increase in its import in Australia made it the most imported car over there. This was the stage 1 of this car which ended in 1999.The second generation models were rebadged Hyundai Verna in 2000 and it continued till 2005 with many modifications and betterments. In the third generation, luxury and performance were underscored.

In the dare drift of time, it attained the tag of a proper luxury sedan after some modifications.Hyundai Motor America unveiled the 2007 Accent lineup at the 2006 Chicago Auto Show today, adding the all-new three-door GS and SE models to the recently released four-door GLS sedan. Hyundai’s third-generation Accent model lineup is now complete and provides a strong statement about the company’s commitment to the market for fuel-efficient small cars. Hyundai has sold more than 570,000 Accents since its introduction in 1994, outselling all of its competitors between 2000 and 2005.

I reckon, the general criteria of accepting a new car is apropos its Exterior, Interior, Convenience, Seating, Comfort, Saftey Features and Performance. This car stood firm in all the realms with the company's commitment and outstanding performance. Accent lineup was poised for continued success with unsurpassed standard safety equipment, interior volume and power — plus 35 custom accessories that allow owners to express their individual style. The all-new Accent GLS four-door hit showrooms in December 2005, with the new 2007 three-door GS and SE models that arrived in that spring.Accents overcame consumers’ preconceived notions of compromises among performance, comfort and safety attributes in an economy car. All Accents come standard with six airbags, including side air curtains protecting both front and rear seat outboard passengers. The class-leading 110-horsepower 1.6-liter DOHC in-line four-cylinder engine with Continuously Variable Valve Timing (CVVT), sport-tuned suspension and 16-inch alloy wheels with P205/45R16 tires (SE model) enhance the car’s fun-to-drive character. Accent GS and SE have the most interior volume in the three-door segment at 108.1 cu. ft. and more standard features than Chevrolet Aveo and Kia Rio.

Starting with the 2006 models, all Accents have newfound power under their hoods with a 1.6-liter DOHC in-line four-cylinder engine that features four valves per cylinder with CVVT. The DOHC and CVVT combination helps to give the engine a very broad powerband, coupled with high fuel efficiency and low emissions. With the better-breathing CVVT, performance has improved. Horsepower now peaks at 110 at 6000 rpm (an almost six percent increase), and torque is 106 lb.-ft. at 4500 rpm. These numbers put the Accent at the top of its class in terms of horsepower. For peak performance, all Accents come standard with a five-speed manual transmission that has lower gearing for quicker acceleration and a sportier personality. A new shift pattern that relocates reverse ensures smooth operation. Also available is an optional four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive lock-up torque converter to maximize fuel economy at highway speeds. The automatic transmission has new levels of hydraulic control for quick, precise shifts.

The 2009 car has 1.5 Ltr Engine with a state-of-the-art microprocessor that delivers precise fuel, high velocity air intake and exhaust ports, tumble airflow, dual intake valves, asymmetric rockers, harmonically balanced cranks and ignition spark timing. The engine also makes use of space-age plastics and lightweight aluminum. It also delivers 94 ps of power and 12.5 kgm of torque and can touch 170. The car's independent suspension is one of the smoothest one present. The breaks on the car are also excellent and are quite responsive. The deluxe Accent Executive is available with cutting edge advantages like body colour bumpers, body colour waistline moulding, rear defogger, wodden finish panels, biege key colour, delay out interior lamp, door trim with fabric insert, tilt steering, dual central lock/unlock, key less entry, high mount stop lamp and many other features garnishing the glory of Accent. The most promising feature still lies in its compatibility with its price range. we can see that in terms of performance, this car stands juxtaposed to many other expensive cars also.So basically, under the present market setup, it still is one of the favorite sedan in a fairly affordable price range.
