The 2006 Chevy Cobalt was an excellent car to own. It is great on gas mileage, which can save you tons of money if you are an avid driver or even if you just drive a few miles a day. Although the car is a bit small, the trunk space is more than sufficient. I always had more than enough room to stow camping, fishing, golfing, or any other equipment that I needed with me. I took my family camping for a week in this car. We never felt cramped and we saved so much money on gas that we could do things that we had earlier ruled out due to budget issues. I had the car for 3 years and the only problem that I had was that the door handle fell off, which will always be a mystery to me. Even the alignment was still good after 3 years of driving. One of the best things about the car was how quickly it would warm up in the winter. In less than a mile I would have hot heat! The car was also great in the snow. I did get stuck a few times, but I never slid or skidded while driving on the icy Michigan roads. Another fun thing about the Cobalt is the color choices for the exterior and the spoiler. I choose to have burnt orange, but it also comes in yellow and a few other “sporty” colors. The interior was very nice and the door handles were chrome. The speakers had a great sound. It felt like a sports car without the cost of the sports car.
The main thing that I didn't like about the car was the lack of space in the backseat. I owned the 2 door model, so the back seats had absolutely no leg room. With my two kids growing older and my dogs getting bigger, I had to move up to a larger car in order to fit our growing family. It was also difficult to take more than one adult anywhere because most adults, especially grown men, cannot fit into the seats comfortably. I would have to measure people to see how they would fit into my car. Most of the time I would be the one sitting in the back seat and one of my guests would be the driver. I also didn’t like that my insurance was higher because I owned a coupe.
I would definitely recommend this car to someone. It is one of the cheapest Chevy’s that you can purchase, it drove great, and it never gave me any problems (besides the mysterious door handle). It was one of the smoothest driving cars that I've ever had. Based on prior experience, I would recommend getting the 4 door model of the Cobalt instead of the 2 door model. It would be more convenient for families or for anyone else that may need to use the backseat. It is also cheaper on insurance to have a sedan than it is to have a coupe.
