This was the first car I bought, completely new and all for my self! I'm in college and live a few states away from where my family is, so I needed a car that would be reliable for 9 hour drives. It does handle smoothly, and is as comfortable as any car could be for long durations.
I'm also happy with the overall appearance, which is important to me as it's the first time I've really gotten to pick my own car out. I'm young and want something that will be aesthetically pleasing without breaking the bank. I have the graphite color which is gorgeous. Also, the brand new 2008 Mazda 3 was still a few thousand cheaper than a used Camry!
I do have one large complaint about this style, and that's the obstructed vision out of the back. The back seats are high, and it's almost impossible to look over your shoulder and back in places, or to rely on the view to make sure you wont hit anything backing out. If you're used to using only your mirrors, it won't be a problem. But for me, I felt like I was blind every time I looked over my shoulder-- it takes a while to get used to.
