What is it? The Chrysler Pacifica is one of those cars with an identity crisis. It's based on a minivan chassis, and it drives like a minivan. But it's got 4 normal doors and is laid out like a station wagon. So what is it? A 'Stationvan'?
ROAD MANNERS: The Pacifica is actually a pretty good car. It's luxurious, roomy and drives as good as the Caravan/Town & Country that it's based on. The Pacifica isn't as tall as a minivan, or SUV, so it doesn't have a top-heavy feeling. Steering is light and accurate and you don't get that pitchy feel in a curve that you get from an SUV. The optional AWD system keeps all 4 wheels turning through the slippery stuff, which makes the Pacifica feel even more capable. Power from the V6 comes on smoothly and there's plenty of passing power.
COMFORT: The ride is smooth and road noise is kept to a minimum. Seats offer comfort and support and there's plenty of room for even tall occupants to stretch out. This is really a road car made for long trips. The interior is very up scale and modern. Fit and finish are good and there's even an optional navigation system which displays directions on a screen inside the speedometer. Rear passengers can adjust their individual buckets every which way. But the third row is best left to small children, or midgets.
PRACTICALITY: It has loads of room, but the Pacifica probably wouldn't suit a growing family. The focus of this car is more towards passenger comfort, that practical space and juice box holders.
RELIABILITY: The Pacifica may need an expensive valve job if you notice a ticking sound from the 3.5L engine. Electrical and accessory problems are also common (remember, this is a Chrysler product).
