2006 Audi A6

There are luxury cars, then there's the Audi A6. Audi drivers are connoisseurs. They don't need to show that they've arrived, they just want to enjoy the fruits of their labor.

Unlike other cars in this class, the Audi A6 is a study of subtlety and luxury. Interiors are lined with the finest leather and exotic wood. Power comes from some of the most advanced engines on the planet and the styling is completely void of egotistical showmanship. This is a car that any celebrity would enjoy driving when they didn't want to be noticed.

A smooth 3.2 V6 provides ample power, but a 335-hp V8 adds even more punch. All this power is harnessed by Audi's superior Quattro All-Wheel drive system which provides as much safety as it is does handling prowess. The suspension is tuned to provide loads of grip, but doesn't sacrifice ride quality. Though it has a firm ride, there's no bone jarring thuds, unless you get the 18" wheels.

The cabin is pure, self-indulgent luxury. Materials feel rich to the touch and controls are close at hand. Audi's MMI system is a bit distracting and it would've been nice if it was an option, instead of standard on all cars. It uses a console mounted knob to control certain functions via a dash mounted screen. The radio, navigation, car settings and telephone system are all controlled by this one knob. Though it is distracting, it is much easier to use than BMW's iDrive.

The Audi A6 is an engaging car. It can be driven hard when you get the urge, then settle down to become a quiet, comfortable cruiser. It's truly a cruise missile in an Armani suit. When shopping for an A6, look for oil leaks in the 3.2 V6. Electrical and climate control malfunctions are common in all A6's and the ignition key will sometimes not work.
