Just a Good Ol' Boy

K Olsen on September 23, 2008 | Has worked on a 2009 Ford F-150

For decades now the F 150 has been a staple in the truck world. Now in this new Century Ford is keeping up with pack and the F 150 is still one of the best. Though the ride can get a little bouncy ( it is a truck after all) the comfortable, durable seating is a plus. The style may be practical but it is what it is a work horse made for those who want to haul and carry things. Tough enough for rural areas, the F 150 is still a comfortable size for the suburbs.

In the past F 150s like many Fords had issues with rusting and paint fading, no longer an issue. The seats materials hold up well to wear and tear and the leather seats are awesome, though not my first choice for those who get really dirty at work.

If looking to buy a F 150, as always with Ford check the recall lists. Ford seems to have problems wiring this truck so if when test driving there are lights going on and off, or fluttering, chimes going off for no reason, make sure the recalls have been fixed. Also check for a shudder when braking, rough idle and wear on the suspension in the front. All of these a fixable so make the dealer fix it before you buy. Repairs are not overly expensive but will add up quick.

If you own this truck, make sure to change the air filter regularly for best performance. Oil changes and tune ups should be done 3 times a year and cost usually between $100-$130 for parts. It will cost $150- $200 for labor though when you take it to a dealer, and it may be something to take a vocational class on if you want to save some money. You'll need that money for the gas this truck eats. Ranging from 13-18 MPG a little better on long flat drives, and a mile or so less with the 4 x 4 on, it will cost to run this vehicle.

The F 150 can take on a good weight and still drive with no strain, as well as tow small trailers or boats with ease. Overloading it will cause suspension damage. Ford has always kept the F 150 as a particle truck which I love. In this day and age the gas guzzlers are painful to run and, this tarnishes its worth. Though in comparison to Chevy's 1500, the F 150 has held its value better.
