I bought the Jetta diesel wagon with a five speed transmission and got exceptional gas mileage. Some tanks, when driven conservatively, I was able to get 50 MPG! The car always started without a problem even in the cold, sometimes sub-zero Minnesota winter. I had virtually no problems with the car. It had great acceleration, good handling and was very quiet for a diesel. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a high MPG, well built and utilitarian car. I would recommend the wagon as opposed to the sedan because the wagons are built in Germany where reliability and quality are higher.
