I feel we got a lot for the money. In 2000, the car was around $17,000. After 8 years and almost 200,000 miles, we are only starting to put some money into it. Before this, it was just routine maintenance. Now, the transmission is starting to act up, but considering how much wear we have put it through, that's not too bad. The mileage is decent. We are still getting 24-26 miles to the gallon. Also, for a relatively small car, there is a surprisingly large space for storing and hauling stuff. I would definitely look at another Jetta.
The worst part of the car is that it is almost impossible for passengers to ride comfortably in the back seat. Even though we pull the seats up, the back is really cramped.
