Absolutely NO COMPLAINTS!

sahu on July 3, 2008 | Has driven a 2008 BMW X5

With extreme sadness I traded in my '05 Mini Cooper S because my kids simply got too big (and the car was too fast...). The sorrow lasted about a day. What I gave up in "What a Blast!!" I replaced with "Wow, This is the Ultimate Driving Machine." Other than literally half the MPG, the X5 is an unbelievable ride. The I-drive grows on you quickly, and actually becomes second nature. All of the controls are well placed and user friendly, although initially intimidating. Most are set up once and left alone. PS The website has detailed mini-videos on just about every aspect of the car for people who can't be bothered looking in the manual. My X5 has most of the bells & whistles - including the automatic tailgate (it's convenient and fun!). I have not been disappointed by any of these packages. BMW sets the standard in quality - from the adorable Mini to the well designed X5. This is our 4th BMW - each one has been better than the last.

DO'NT KNOW HOW MUCH YOU KNOW ABOUT COCKPIT MANAGEMENT, BUT THE LAYOUT IS PRETTY CROOK. CRUISE CONTROL FOR INSTANCE YOU CA'NT SEE BECAUSE IT HIDES BEHIND THE WHEEL SPOKE. IT IS NECESSARY TO TAKE YOUR EYES OFF THE ROAD TO FIND IT OR YOU HIT THE BLINKERS INSTEAD.

DIGITAL DISPLAY BETWEEN THE TWO ANLOGUE INSTRUMENTS VERY DIFFICULT TO READ QUICKLY AND YOU HAVE TO PRESS A BUTTON PERCHED ON THE END OF THE BLINKER STORK TO CYCLE THE DIGITAL READING IF YOU HAVE'NT GOT HOLD OF THE CRUISE CONTROL BY MISTAKE.

WORKING THE WINDSCREENWIPER/ WASHER CONTROL IS ANOTHER STOREY. THEY REALLY SHOULD RETHINK ABOUT THE SYMBOLS THEY USE.

AS A PILOT OF 45 YEARS AND 23000 HOURS, THIS WOULD HAVE THE WORST COCKPIT LAYOUT I HAVE EVER SEEN.

PERHAPS THE BMW BOFFINS SHOULD CHECK OUT THE AUSTRALIAN FORD FAIRMONT SERIES FOR SOME DRIVER FRIENDLY IDEAS!

....BMW cares nothing about user friendliness....had 2008 535i for one year and could not stand it...got rid of car with $20,000 loss, now driving a real car, 2009 GS350 Lexus...also half reason was BMW lied to me on their $2480 extra service, screwed me good...but don't have to deal with them now.
