I've owned an '07 Corolla for 18 months and have been very satisfied. Highway mileage often hovers close to 40 mpg, which puts the car in the same league as the various economy hybrids and much smaller, less roomy models like the Toyota Yaris, Honda Fit, and Nissan Versa. We are a single car family and regularly transport four to five people back and forth to school and work. I would describe its handling as sufficiently nimble and its acceleration as peppy.
Exterior fit and finish is fine, but the interior has a cheap, flimsy feel in some places. Cruising range is between 350 and 400 miles, usually. The factory, bare bones stereo system performs well and is easy to use. All controls on the dash are intuitively placed, and the cruise control is the easiest I've ever used.
The Corolla is perfect for a small family or an individual frequently car pooling or running errands. The car makes ecological sense as well. They're just so many of them on the road, that its sometimes hard to find your car in a parking lot.
