Poll 2005 Ford Mustang

Previous | Next

Is this car a good choice for my budget?

From ben_L on June 6, 2008

This is for people who appreciate muscle cars. I want a car to hit the streets with my friends from time to time. I've got a budget of 10K so can I afford it? How much maintenance am I going to need in the first few years?

Not for $10K. A 2005 Ford Mustang for $10K is going to have some serious problems.. But wait a year, and then after we have $5 gas, I bet you can find a lot of pony cars for $10K or less as their owners will want to dump them fast.

Yes, I think it's fair to say that a 2005 Mustang is a good budget buy. You should be able to find a 2005 for close your 10k budget.

A year ago, probably not. Today? DEFINITELY not! You should be looking at a Yaris or a Focus, my friend!

You're kidding right? A 10k budget for a mustang? Buy a two year old Civic and you won't even have to worry about loans.

being a former Ford mechanic, you're getting the musclecar look without the muscle. It probably has the cheapest options, but in general, when I used to work on them, they were pretty dependable rides. The interior is kind of cheap and will develop rattles rather quickly if you're willing to put up with it.

With budget in mind, I'm sure you'll go for the gutless 6 cylinder version. And automatic. My beetle eats those for breakfast, so keep in mind it won't be impressing anyone unless it's just sitting there looking 'fast'

ok, no it doesnt require higher octane fuel, prob gets decent mileage...esp if its the 6 cyl, even decent mileage with the 4.6 V8. Check insurance rates though, some cars will suprise you with high rates. Dont go and buy some boring car if you want the fun car get it, just make sure you can insure and gas it up!(who wants a yaris when u are young?) yuck
