Noisy Diff

Been having a problem with my jeep making alot of noise fro, the rear end. I've traced it back to the rear diff after changing the brakes and one whell bearing. I opened up the diff and the spider gears seemed pretty loose and the metal pin that holds them in place has some slop between it and the housing. I'm thinking about replacing the spider gears but just sufing the web i see the most common fix for a noise rear diff is replacing the carrier bearings. I'm looking for some input anything helps thanks.

I'd replace the whole carrier if you have slop in that pin. That pin should be a nice fit, no slop at all. Find a jeep forum and ask around for folks that have installed locking differentials. Many of these locking differentials actually replace that whole carrier assembly, so I bet you could get the one they pulled out for very cheap. Then buy new bearings to do the job right.

I think they refer to that as the housing. i'm not sure if the pin is worn or the housing I'm gonna pull the pin tonite and see what happens-- after tracking down the external torx socket that noone carries.

It's an E-12 socket. You can find them at any auto parts store I've ever been in.
