  It depends on what lights. Do you mean the lights that are on with the headlights? Then I'd suspect the headlight switch. If you have some of the warning lights on, then I'd suspect issues with those systems (like the oil light means low oil pressure, the coolant light means either low coolant or high temperature and so on). If EVERY warning light is on, then I'd suspect the ignition switch or a body control module. When you first start up a car it does a "bulb check" where all the warning lights come on so you can check that they work. The body control module get's a signal from the ignition switch and the engine computer to turn the lights off within a few seconds.

  How can i find out the issue with the lights on the dashboards the light on the far left hand side shows a car with the dooors open

  So, do you mean as you are driving down the road the light that shows a car with the doors open is on? If so, it sounds like you have a bad door pin-switch. That's a switch that tells the computer a door is open. Are your dome lights on? If this is the case, I'd have a mechanic look at the switches. He can unplug and jump each switch till he finds the culperate.
