Well, I had a hard time finding the info you were looking for since the engines actually put out different power specs depending on the year, and more speficically the vehicle it's installed in. But nearest I could tell, there's no tangable difference between the two different systems.

The MDS is a "Multi-Displacement System" with the automatic, it can drop cylinders and save gas mileage

Right, but the HP and torque specs are pretty much the same. I wish all my vehicles had an MDS system.
