Connecting Aftermarket Radio/CD Player to Factory DVD Player

Hello...I'm trying to replace the factory installed radio/CD/cassette player in my 2004 Honda Odyssey (kids put coins in CD player and shorted out system). Is it possible to connect an aftermarket radio to the factory installed DVD player? The DVD player seems to be working fine, but needs to be hooked up to the new radio to have audio capabilities. I'm not sure if the type of cable connection used by the factory will be compatible with aftermarket radios. Thanks!

Normally the factory systems are difficult to get to work with aftermarket systems, it's designed that way. But it can be done. I'd call crutchfield a call 1-888-955-6000

i have the same problem but some dumbass at the local audio store told me he could do it but broke my dvd in the process... i have hired an attorney and am suing them for the cost of a new dvd and radio + installation... the honda dealer gave me a quote for $1450.

If your kid put coins in the tray....why not actually pay attention to your child instead of trying to sue the guys. If that were the case, would you ever have had a problem. And who is to say the coin didnt burn the unit up anyways...thus not an installer issue anyways. Just a thought....

Let's keep this forum a friendly atmosphere folks. The person who mentioned an attorney isn't the same one who had kinds put a coin in the slot.

You should be able to get one at the local audio store, but I would go into the local Honda shop where you're at to have it looked at. Most times you can get a refurbished original Honda radio from them or maybe even online! It would be a cheaper fix and you're sure that you can use that with your current DVD player without messing anything up! Purchasing a new system from Honda can be costly as well! I remember replacing a system for a customer and was going to cost them over $2000, so I suggested a new vehicle instead and I gave them fair market value for their vehicle for being a loyal customer!

What about going into Best Buy and replacing the unit, the only problem will be with size ie will it look like a poor fix

yes, its possible you will need to buy a pigtail. You may find this at a Wal-mart in the audio section, look for your make and model year etc.. Disconnect the plugs from the back of your radio, the pigtail should connect into them then you can connect to the wires of the new radio......

I have a 2004 Odyssesy EX. My radio short circuited. ( the DVD player didn't work either) I was able to remove it and get some coins out. Now the radio works fine. If I place a DVD in, I have volume but no picture..,, does anyone have any idea what could be going on.. am I going to have to replace the DVD system?
