Well, after the Cadillac track session finished up, the Caddy was clearly a quick car. But do you think you'd choose it over the equivalent BMW, Mercedes, or Audi?

In terms of prestige, it doesn't fare well. But those who only factor in prestige are clear losers. The CTS-V is a big win for the company, in both media-whoring and performance achievements. Would I choose it over a BMW M5? No. I guess i'm one of those aforementioned losers, but I need my roundel... Both contraptions sitting in my garage wouldn't suck, just need a good samaritan to lend me the funds to make it happen.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. And probably I'd end up buying an old Citroen or something. Still, in terms of promising performance and luxury, the CTS-V certainly delivers.

But I hate to think of the braggards inside glass-blocked 8 Mile bars…

I've never been one big on prestige. I like BMW's because of the way they drive, and I like Porsches because they go back to my childhood, but I wouldn't buy either of them just because what the badge means to other people. In this segment, there isn't an "emotional" choice for me, so subjectively I would be stupid not to at least test-drive the Cadillac. I might not end up buying it because of a subjective preference after giving every car a test drive, but I wouldn't discount the Cadillac automatically.

If I were going to take the car to the track, after hearing what Cooper had to say about his M3's brakes and what happened the brakes on Jack's S5... I would be really hard-pressed *not* to pick the Cadillac.

I am impressed by the CTS-V. And this comes from a die-hard GM hater. Cadillac has been a automotive punch line for a long time and they finally did something meaningful. But, they have a LONG, LONG, LONG way before many people hold off on the 3 or 5 series purchase so they can test drive a GM product. I mean, the Cimeron and the "car that zigs" are still in our memory banks.
