Jeep Grand Cherokee binding during turns

This is a problem that was once very, very common but still pops up fairly regularly. If you have a full-time AWD Jeep grand cherokee and experience the steering binding during tight turns (like pulling into a parking spot) then I would suspect the viscous coupler. This viscous coupler allows the Jeep Grand Cherokee to operate in AWD all the time, even on dry pavement. When it wears out, the front and rear axles are not able to turn at different speeds (they need to when you are turning) and this will cause a binding in the transfer case. The part is expensive and only available through the dealership but is the only way to fix it. Expect it to set you back $500 or more.
