    Since you are talking about a 12 year old car, the cars inherent reliability really doesn't come into play much. Many of the cars known issues have been dealt with (many, not all). The things left are the electrical system (not a MB strong point from that era) and how the car has been maintained. I'd shop for a car with a known maintenance history.
