Has anyone been in an accident with a Passat? What kind and how did you fair?

My daughter was in an accident recently. She was in a Buick Le Sabre. If she had been in a smaller car, she would have rolled and could have died. She's looking at a Passat to replace her Le Sabre which was totaled. Has anyone heard how safe Passat's are? I know what the website says but I would like to hear from real people with experiences.

I have Passat GLS V6 that I bought in 1999. In 2006, I had an accident on the highway, but it wasn't anything major. A few cars were involved, but it was stop and go traffic so there were no high speeds involved. The car itself took the hit pretty well, but I was amazed how expensive it was to fix afterwards. Cost the insurance company > $10k for a car, that at the time, was valued at around $8K. Overall, my Passat has proved to be very expensive to maintain. Over the past 10 years, I've spent over $5k in repairs outside of the normal $5K I spent on maintainance. From a styling and comfort perspective, it's great. A smooth ride with lots of comforts inside. The engine is pretty good, but can't compete with the engines of today. In all, it's a good German car, but I wouldn't buy it again. Primarily because its too expensive to maintain compared to the competition. I'd stick to a Toyota/Lexus or a Honda. Just do a google search on Volkswagen quality and you'll read all the horror stories

Wow that is sooo weird, I am 21 years old and I drove a 2001 passat and was rear ended on the highway by a guy in a buick Le Sabre...I can honestly say the passat did take the full impact of the collision which was a good thing, the seat dropped during the impact and pushed back due to the force of my body. I really think this car was safe but if it had been my fault it is very expensive to fix the body damage...The other guy's insurance company deemed my car a total loss because it was worth $6600 but the repairs would have cost $6900..but I am looking into buying another VW passat, it a cheaper luxury car and has alot of excellent features but it can be expensive to fix depending on the repair needed..Good Luck
