What would cause the oil pressure gauge to drop to low and stay there, then move up to normal

When does it drop? When the engine is cold? Just started? When is the last time the oil was changed? Are you using a good name-brand oil filter? Some of these have a drain-back valve that can stick open and COULD cause a drop in pressure, but it's doubtfull. The best way to know what's going on is to put a mechanical gauge on it. Remove the factory sending unit and screw in a mechanical gauge.
