Which U.S. automaker will fail first?

HPX on December 19, 2008
The Bush administration announced a $17.4B bailout loan to save the U.S. auto industry, but economist Mark Zandi believes this won't be sufficient for them to avoid bankruptcy at some point in the next two years, estimating that it would require somewhere between $75B and $125B to avoid this fate.
Which of the Detroit automakers (GM, Ford and Chrysler) will be the first to collapse?

Good question. Ford claims they don't need any money for now. Chrysler has the shadowy Cerberus Capital behind them, who may want to cut their losses, or prop it up looking for good times. GM has about a week left if you believe their scare talk.

To me there is no question regarding which Detroit Captive will fail first. Chrysler will not be with us in 12-18 months. The Jeep brand will remain, but it will be owned by someone else. Walter Chrysler's namesake will be no more....

While I personally find Chrysler to be the least egregious, I think they'll also be the first to go...

there going to fall anyways, just let fall so the healing can begin, if we prop them up for a while there still going down, Id rather have the healing start soon rather than later. I feel sorry for anyone who owns a car from the big three

It is a toss up between GM and Chrysler. I think they both just fail to understand the consumer. They, including all other manufacturers have cheated the consumer in every way through bad finance contracts, poor service and repairs, and shady dealerships, and the consumer in a free capital market will prevail. In order for them to survive, they need to change their attitude first and then get hard to work to make a good product. The C4C will only buy them time, but if they fail to change, then the automakers will still succumb and it is only a matter of time, because we taxpayers gave them time whether we wanted to or not, that was the decision the Government made for us.

I think Chrysler will bite the dust. I do like the Challenger.
