Light, tossable, easily controlled and intense fun. Not to mention that it's a car designed from the ground up to be a convertible, not just had its roof ripped off and a couple of braces added.

Miata is definitely more fun. The Eclipse is a great car, but fun it is not.

I've driven every model of each, and trust me: the Eclipse is awful. And in GS trim as you've selected here, the 4-cylinder engine makes the car feel very underpowered. Why mess with a legend like the Miata?

THE ECLIPSE IS FRONT WHEEL DRIVE. THE ECLIPSE CANNOT TURN. THE ECLIPSE HAS BEEN DESIGNED FOR POSERS EVER SINCE THEY DROPPED THE ALL-WHEEL DRIVE GSX.
If you'll notice, people choosing the Miata talk about performance; people choosing the Eclipse use phrases like "better package", "safe", "looks nice", and "classy".
If you're asking which one is more fun to drive/a better racecar/sportier/faster the UNDEBATABLE answer is the Miata.
If you want to look 'cool' in front of a bunch of douchebags, buy the Eclipse.

Not that I'm biased or anything...ahem....but there's no comparison in terms of driving experience. The current Miata is also extremely practical, there's little reason not to get one.

i agree with the miata 100%. they are sportier, and just plain better. rwd all the way for a sports car. and they are affordable. so normal ppl can have one, not just the stuck up high class a-holes

I happen to have both these cars not the 2008 miata but the 1991 miata and the 2008 eclipse. The Eclipse is a very fun fast comfortable car though its heavy and that shows in sharp turns. The miata is light 50/50 weight, and takes the turns like if its glued to the road, its a true sports car, theres tons of aftermarket parts for them, really good on gas, super reliable. Though i love my eclipse for the curvy roads i choose the miata.
