looking for the ultimate offroading car. I won't drive it much except on the weekend. I've got leads on a 2004 wrangler, or I could get a deal on the 2008 but I want to know whether the model redesign in 07 made a big difference. Will a 2004 in good condition serve my purposes as well as an 08?

If you can get a deal on an '04, go for it. Otherwise, look for the '08 or even '09 model...

Get a Rubicon model of either year.
There is a huge difference between the TJ and JK

The 07-08 driveline improvments are huge, motor sucks however it is tolerable, just not the good ol 4.0 inline power. I would definatly go for the new one over the older one, just the handling alone is worth the extra coin

It's a about price. If the 04 is cheap, cheap, cheap buy it.
