Volvo motorsport clothing…for kids!
Banovsky on July 13, 2009
As I mentioned in our little ditty about Porsche Design baby clothes (must be a lucrative market!), my mother sewed me a racing suit that I went to Grand Prix in.
But kids these days have it so easy. Apart from Volvo and Porsche, pretty much every major car manufacturer sells branded baby clothes. Want your kid to match the Land Rover? Well, put him in some Land Rover overalls and sit him in some mud.
As part of Volvo's involvement in the STCC (Swedish Touring Car Championship) with their C30 model, they've released a whole whack of kit so you can look just like a member of the team.

Kim White vintage automotive handbags
Banovsky on June 23, 2009
Ok, so I may not be the most fashion-conscious. Or fashion literate. But I do know a few things about rocking recycled material for bags, as I've been living with a Freitag bag for a few months now.
Still, I'm not a woman. So it was cool to find these vintage handbags made from old automotive fabric stock.
Designer Kim White uses never-used textiles that were intended for use in American vehicles. Her website says:
"She fortuitously unearthed an entire warehouse of automotive fabric, which may be the last existing stock anywhere in the US, and she is the sole owner of these amazing textiles."
A great story, and even better is that each handbag is tagged with the year and make of the fabric, so you can tell your friends your bag's fabric could have been a Camaro, Mustang…or Gremlin.
Well, maybe you wouldn't tell them it was supposed to be the seats in a Gremlin.

Furniture made from car parts
AshleyW on June 17, 2009
If you've ever thought about keeping a piece of a car you just couldn't part with, Jake's Chop Shop has the right idea in taking some of those parts and turning them into something new.
Remember those car beds you see advertised in a Sears catalogue for little kids, with the matching sheets and pillowcases? Jake's Chop Shop car beds are sort of like that but definitely for grown ups and you have to provide your own sheets. His designs appeal to car enthusiasts, who may want to take the front of a classic car and convert to the front of their bed or couch.
Even better, take the rear seat out of an old Chevy or Chrysler and you've got yourself a brand new sofa. Innovative and creative the beds, chairs, sofas and tables are one of a kind. The attention to detail in each piece is really amazing.

Improving your car, one wheel at a time
AshleyW on June 5, 2009
The number of ways one can personalize their car is endless now, with all sorts of gadgets and accessories to enhance how your car looks inside and out.
Steering wheels are one of many things you can change to give your car a customized look. Larry McGlaughlin, Store Manager, of Performance Improvements in Brampton, Ontario gave me some advice on steering wheels.
Most of the clients who want to change their steering wheels do it for cosmetic reasons, says Larry McGlaughlin of Performance Improvements. He sells twenty to thirty steering wheels per year, and on occasion a few for race modifications. He used to sell more steering wheels before the airbag in the steering wheel became law. If a client does buy a steering wheel that doesn't come with an airbag, they have to adjust it so that it does.

Evening bags made from recycled tires and hemp
AshleyW on June 2, 2009
For a night on the town, I like a small black bag because it usually goes with everything. I've discovered some ideal evening bags — but these ones happen to be made from recycled rubber.
Vulcanabags is based in the U.S. and makes unique bags from recycled rubber. Found in landfills, this rubber is processed into large sheets that can end up as pretty much any style of bag. Their evening bag comes in a soft black or brown color with an inner zippered pocket, perfect for all my small accessories that won't fit. The price? Just over $70.

Miata content: I'm in love…again
Banovsky on May 19, 2009
Ok, so the Mazda Miata isn't the most manly car you can get. But it's so close to the ideal "drive" that it doesn't matter.
Even though thousands of Miatas are being used in competition regularly, some enthusiasts fail to see the car as more than a rolling joke. So maybe it's best to add a few retro touches to make the car more "classic."
Monocraft, a high-quality Japanese firm specializing in large scale customization, has just the ticket. Its front and rear fascias change the small roadster almost beyond recognition, giving it more soul and more character. It's new name? The MH1… Ok, the name is lame.

If you've got a MINI and personality, show it!
AshleyW on May 19, 2009
I personally like having unique items. Something that's one of a kind. During my karting experience I met another woman who owns a MINI Cooper, and explained to me that she is part of the MINI community that actually races their cars.
I did some research and discovered that there are tons of accessories that can be bought to enhance the MINI Cooper, especially vinyl graphics. I immediately thought of one of my favorite movies, The Italian Job…you know, with Mark Wahlberg…
Anyway, I found two really cool sites that offer customized vinyl graphics just for MINIs to give them that racing appeal or and to make them one of a kind.

Wear your old car parts as jewellery?
AshleyW on May 15, 2009
Recycling and being green is more popular now than ever and a lot of individuals are finding creative ways to reuse materials. Even car parts are being reshaped and designed into some serious 'bling.
Hi Octane Jewellery is an innovative company that makes earrings, rings, belt buckles, bracelets and necklaces either with car motifs or recycled car parts.
Their car grille rings are made of silver and some look like old school hot rods. Much of their jewellery can be custom made, like the silver 1957 Chevy Look Grille bracelet. The items made from emblems are really interesting. Hi Octane Jewellery has created necklaces, belt buckles and even cufflinks from car emblems. One of their belt buckles is a Cadillac emblem that was found on the inside of a door panel and cufflinks, also Cadillac emblems, were found on interior lights.
Perfect gifts for enthusiasts, click through to learn about Wired Jewellery.

Luxury handbags made from tractor tire inner tubes
AshleyW on May 14, 2009
When I think of tractors, the images that come to mind are: wheat, tall grass, large fields, and corn. Never — ever — have I associated tractors with luxury bags, but that's about to change.
It all started in 1999. Angela Greene, an inventor, along with Ken Kobrick, a former welder decided to create bags made out of discarded tractor inner tube tires after Greene bought a backpack made out of inner tubes. Passchal was created soon after, and the variety of bags you can buy made out of inner tubes is fascinating. They launched Passchal in 2004 and have recycled 26 tons of inner tubes creating these innovative luxury bags.

iPods and car stereos finally a match made in heaven
AshleyW on May 12, 2009
I think iPods and iPhones are soon going to be mandatory gadgets when listening to music in a car.
In the past few months a few friends of mine have brought their iPods or iPhones along when we've been out and I've been really impressed. (I don't own an "i" anything.) So when I discovered that Alpine has produced a car stereo, the IXAW404, just for an iPod and it can be used with an iPhone too, I had to see what this was all about.
