2010 Dodge Ram Heavy Duty
Banovsky on November 2, 2009
I'll confess: I'm not of a truck guy. The only thing I've towed was a small trailer behind a golf cart. Lame, I know. But I do completely understand the need for many people to have a truly formidable work truck. The 2010 Dodge Ram HD looks like it will impress in that respect.
Here are some stats:
- 2010 Dodge Ram 2500 regular cab ST 4x2 with an 8-foot box has a starting MSRP of $28,165 (including $950 destination) or $1,970 less than the 2009 model
- Optional 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel engine, which produces 350 horsepower at 3,000 rpm and 650 lb-ft. of torque at only 1,500 rpm
- 2010 Dodge Ram Heavy Duty is available for the first time with an available crew-size cab
- Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups offer the only standard exhaust brake on diesel models in the segment
- With the Max Tow Package, Gross Combines Weight Rating increases to 25,400 pounds on 3500 dually models

Silly old ad: This Jeep has two business ends
Banovsky on October 15, 2009
I love campy old ads. This one, for the Willys-Overland 'Jeep' — yes, from before AMC and Chrysler ownership — touts the practicalities of the military-bred machine for farm use and chores.

Community review: 2005 Nissan Titan
Banovsky on September 28, 2009
Especially with car buyers trying to save every last penny, our vehicle reviews are an invaluable resource. Every now and then, we'd like to highlight some of the great reviews our community members write at vLane.
Reviewer trucklady858585 says of the 2005 Nissan Titan that:
Having driven small cars, I was apprehensive about driving a large truck. However, out of everything that I test drove, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the Titan handled almost like a large car.
Still, her first complaint started with the stereo:
We ended up with the LE edition with the Rockford Fosgate sound system. While it is better than the regular stock system, it isn’t fantastic, and if you value great sound, I would recommend that eventually you update your system.
The practicality of the Titan and ruggedness has won some fans, though:
Although I don’t have the 4WD version, I have taken this truck on some rough terrain with my quads. The Titan handled the roads with ease…The rails that run down the bed of the truck really help you secure oddly shaped items with ease. We have traveled hundreds of miles with large items in the bed of our truck without worrying about anything coming loose or flying out.

From around the web: 2010 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor
Banovsky on August 24, 2009
Oh, we're not bitter that we haven't yet driven the off-road crushing Ford SVT Raptor truck. Oh no. We're just very, very jealous of those who have. Seriously, I may buy a lottery ticket with the hopes of spending part of the jackpot on this crazy truck. Let's see what the lucky
bastardsgentlemen had to say about the hot-rodded F-150.2010 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor reviews
Jalopnik.com says: "…the Raptor sets itself apart by doing something no one else has ever thought was a good idea, was possible within the legal framework of an automobile company or, hell, even possible at all."
Autoblog.com says: "For $39K you get an F-150 with a 1,000-pound payload capacity and 6,000-pound towing capacity that doubles as a beginner's guide to trophy truck driving – but still acts like an F-150."
PickupTrucks.com says: "Having ridden in the third seat of SCORE Baja full-size stock race trucks outfitted with professional-grade suspension and electronics systems, it’s amazing to think just how similar a factory Raptor is to one of those very expensive -- and temperamental -- beasts."
And finally, according to Motor Trend: "According to Jamal Hameedi, chief engineer at SVT, during the planning stages for Ford's ground-breaking (literally) truck, a finance guy on the Special Vehicle Team suggested the Raptor moniker as a placeholder until they could think up something better."

Interesting car names: The Wuling Little Tornado
Banovsky on June 19, 2009
I was browsing GM's Chinese media site as I usually do, and happened across (possibly) one of the best vehicle names ever: the Wuling "Little Tornado".
A small commercial truck, the Little Tornado won't be seen on American roads…or is it already here? Edmunds Inside Line got a chance to speak to Bob Lutz about the small Chinese pickup…even if he got the name wrong, the aviator-clad maven does drive off in it.

News: Garbage trucks to use waste as fuel
AshleyW on May 27, 2009
Trecking garbage back and forth from Metro Vancouver to a landfill in Cache Creek, British Columbia will now be done in a cleaner way thanks to Wastech Services Limited.
It sounds like a bit of an oxymoron; a garbage truck using the waste it normally transports as fuel, but it has proven to be an efficient way to cut down on carbon emissions. How it works? Methane gas is taken from underneath the ground beneath the landfill. It is then refined and turned into liquid natural gas also known as LNG. One truck has already been tested using the liquefied natural gas as fuel for the 250 km distance to the landfill from Vancouver. There are a total of 28 trucks that carry garbage to the landfill in Cache Creek and they will be converted to use LNG instead of diesel.
By using liquefied natural gas the estimate in the reduction of carbon emissions is approximately 7,000 tonnes per year. IMW industries is producing the natural gas compressor technology for the engines within the trucks built by Westport Innovations, located in Vancouver.

Found: One Toyota owner with a sense of humor…
Banovsky on May 5, 2009
Just wow. Upon picking up my colleague Mr Kreindler from GM headquarters, I drove through a not-so-nice area of Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. Then, we spotted this…
With one wheel off the rear-most axle, it wasn't going to be hunting, fishing, or participating in any silly commercials, but it did look ready to tackle anything Top Gear could throw at it. The lesson? Even if you can barely afford the most basic satellite TV package and a few cans of green paint, there's nothing stopping you from becoming the King of Import Hick Villa.
