Community Review: 2000 Mitsubishi Montero
Banovsky on November 2, 2009
Especially with car buyers trying to save every last penny, our vehicle reviews are an invaluable resource. Every now and then, we'd like to highlight some of the great reviews our community members write at vLane. This time, it's a Mitsubishi Montero.
Reviewer jr1 says of the 2000 Mitsubishi Montero :
I owned a 2000 Mitsubishi Montero until this past year when I finally decided to move on to a new car. Throughout the years I owned the Montero I had some issues with it and overall I would say it was a below average car to own.
But why? What happened? Well, maybe the feeling of control was missing:
The ride was never smooth even after upgrading the shocks. The 4 wheel drive was troublesome on more then one occasion. I was driving in half an inch of snow once and the car would not go into 4 wheel drive. The tires slipped all over the place and when I slowly tried to stop the car it slid more.
And possibly a few electrical gremlins:
My Montero also had many different issues with the electrical system. There seemed to be a short someplace however, no mechanic could locate the short. Some issues that I had because of this were if you plugged in a cell phone car charger then the horn would continuously honk. Definitely very annoying.

Learning that puts gravel between your teeth

We think that, sometimes, our Northern friends get to have all the fun.

Mitsubishi Canada and ACP Racing have teamed with the University of Windsor to provide engineering students with a unique learning experience.
Over the next two years, students will work with ACP Racing to "design and develop a variety of improved components for Lancer Evolution rally cars. The team will assist the program in testing and data acquisition, installing the components on their own Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution rally car and putting them through their paces in a real race environment."
Mitsubishi Canada president Koji Soga says that the company is, "delighted to make a difference when money is often a barrier to learning."
Amen to that.
And for you American engineering students: Windsor is but five minutes from downtown Detroit, Michigan.

Airbags for your…knees?
AshleyW on May 5, 2009
Airbags have come a long way, and play a significant role in reducing injuries among occupants in vehicles. The knee airbag isn't a new idea but can be found standard in some vehicles — as opposed to the luxury option it used to be.
Knee airbags aren't a new concept, but are popping up as standard safety features. The purpose of this airbag is to keep the driver from moving around during a collision. Sometimes, a driver may slide or move a certain way that can cause further injury. The knee airbag keeps an occupant in place and also reduces injuries that could occur above the knee.
The coming-soon Volkswagen Golf GTi features a drivers side knee airbag for the first time. Some Toyota models, such as the Avalon, Camry, Venza and Highlander come equipped with driver's side knee airbags. The Audi TT has standard driver and passenger knee airbags.
Other vehicles with knee airbags include.
- Mitsubishi Lancer
- Dodge Caliber
- Dodge Caravan
- Mercedes-Benz GL-Class
- Mercedes-Benz E-Class
- Ford Fiesta
- Lexus RX350

Beat the recession: The Mitsubishi Debonair Royal AMG
Banovsky on March 5, 2009
It's the 80s. You're in Japan. Inflation is through the roof — and you have money to burn. A time so far removed from the current financial meltdown, but one that served up this crazy, Japanese/German gem for collectors.
I'm not saying to actually find and buy this car…but if you like kitsch…
Why should you care about this monstrosity? Well, I'm thinking with wages, bonuses, and savings plummeting around the globe, you may want an AMG — but can no longer afford it. And frankly, pretty much AMG Mercedes ever made still retains great resale value. So you're out of luck if you want something wearing a three-pointed star.
This Mitsubishi? Not the best car AMG but its hands on, but likely one of the least expensive ways to buy something that has badge appeal and is likely to appreciate in value. Our in-depth analysis (and a few jokes) after the jump.
