2011 Bentley Mulsanne
Banovsky on August 17, 2009
I know, I know. 'Tis the season of auto reveals. We've had the Hyundai Equus, Jaguar XJ, Infiniti M, and now this, the 2011 Bentley Mulsanne. The Mulsanne replaces the Arnage at the top of the Bentley totem pole, and what a car it is.
Details are scarce, but the new super-Bentley will be powered by a V8 engine and go head-to-head with the Rolls Royce Phantom and (to some extent) the Maybach 57. Bentley touts the Mulsanne as the pinnacle of Bentley, and will likely be priced as such, with a full compliment of ridiculous luxury car options to suit. More details in the fall.

2011 Infiniti M
Banovsky on August 15, 2009
Breaking into the top-tier luxury car market is difficult. Just ask Acura. But cross-country rivals Infiniti may have leapfrogged their Japanese competition with this, the (very impressive-looking) 2011 M sport sedan.
It's sinewy without looking like taffy stretched over some big rims. With cues from Infiniti's latest concepts, the M looks like a great place to start shopping for your next luxury car, especially if you think the BMW 5-Series and Audi A6 are just too boring.
Here are some details:
- Both V6 and V8 models, called M37 and M56, respectively
- Over 400 horsepower for the M56 model
- Reduced fuel consumption compared with the current model
- Blind spot warning system will actually try and prevent you from changing lanes if another vehicle is detected

2010 Hyundai Equus
Banovsky on August 14, 2009
Hyundai has been on a roll lately. While the entire auto market is down 32 per cent this year, Hyundai's sales are down only 7.9 per cent. The result? More than a percentage point of additional market share for the Korean car maker.
The Equus won't represent tens of thousands of sales, but selling this top-range Lexus LS430 competitor is essential to changing the perceptions of the company in North America.
Early word from Hyundai indicates the vehicle won't wear an Equus badge (which is what it's called everywhere else), instead coming with a Genesis badge. Well, Genesis __________. We don't know the second part. Previous versions have been called "Centennial" in other markets…and we like the sound of Hyundai Genesis Centennial.
Its chassis is shared with the wonderful Genesis Sedan and Coupe, and it's expected to rock an up-rated version of the Sedan's 4.6-litre V8 motor, probably with more than 400 horsepower.
Toys, gadgets, and trim levels haven't been decided, but expect it to have everything a Lexus LS430 has — and be priced from $60,000. You'll be able to buy one in late 2010.

New engine for 2010 Jaguar XF
Banovsky on June 29, 2009
Despite having more than enough power in standard trim, it's tradition for Jaguar to offer a supercharged option on their sedans. This is the latest.
Fitted with a 470-horsepower 5.0-litre V8, the XF Supercharged slots in above the $52,000 normally-aspirated XF and the full-fat $80,000 XFR. The XF Supercharged will retail for a reasonable $68,000 when it goes in sale this October.

The Future of GM Part 1: 2010 Buick LaCrosse
AshleyW on June 17, 2009
In this five-part series, we'll take a look at some of the most exciting products that GM has in the pipeline. It's not a commercial, either: with 60.8 per cent of the company now owned by the US taxpayers — and 11.7 per cent by Canadian taxpayers — it's a good time to look at how well our investments are holding up.
The new LaCrosse is leagues ahead of the current model.
The 2010 Buick LaCrosse uses the same platform as the Opel Insignia from the European Division of GM, a popular vehicle in Europe that was given the honour of European Car of the Year, 2009, and Top Gear's Executive Car of the Year, 2008. Wise decision, I think, to share the award-winning platform with its American cousin.

The Cadillac CTS Wagon (and why we don’t need it)
Banovsky on June 9, 2009
Make no mistake about it, wagons are the red-headed stepchildren of any car range. Probably conceived in a dank corner of an automaker’s R & D lab, complete with trollish engineers, clip boards, and antiques. Lots of antiques.
As such, only terminally crazy and socially-inept Northeastern Birkenstock-shod buyers drive them. I swear, on my last trip through Maine (one never stops, for fear of being consumed by Cliff Bar-chewing, Apple-using hillbillies), there were dozens of stores selling “Sports Antiquities.” All, natch, with Saab, Volvo XC, or Subaru wagons badly parked out front.
You know what? I love wagons. But I also live in the Northeast. You know what else? I have enough money to feed my belly and cat, but not at the same time. Therefore, I am not in the market for a luxury Cadillac CTS Wagon.
The problem? Nobody will be in the market for a Cadillac CTS Wagon.

AshleyW on May 20, 2009
Imagine a country club specifically designed with a race track that you can drive your Ferrari F430 on without the worry of getting a ticket — and then when you're done, enjoy a high-class lunch.
This is what one can expect at the Imola Race Resort that will start construction in South Africa at the end of this year. The resort will be built near to the historical Vaal River about an hours drive from Johannesburg. The actual track will be based on the Kyalami Grand Prix circuit which is located in Midrand, South Africa. Read on…
