Video: Kia gets its Tron on
Banovsky on November 4, 2009
"The face of marketing is changing," yadda yadda yadda. Fact is, 30-second TV commercials don't do it for us any more. So Kia, as part of their interactive marketing campaign for the Soul, decided to make a pretty kick-ass short flick about a time-travelling Nissan and Tron-slash-zombie creating Soul. Really.
We love the effects… [via freshnessmag]
So click through to see this frankly awesome-filled Internet commercial. Why? Because it's cool. And normal car commercials are typically awful.

vLane compares: Kia Soul, Honda Civic, Nissan cube
Banovsky on August 24, 2009
On the surface, these three models don't have much in common. Sure, the Soul and the cube look like competitors, but the Soul is much more conventional under the skin — and in design, it must be said — than the totally out-there Japanese-built cube. But if it's a conventional car you're after, the Honda Civic will likely fit the bill nicely…and put you to sleep.
The cars
The Soul: "Gimmicks aside, this $13,300 hatchback might just be the coolest thing to come out of Korea since the barbecue." (review)
The Civic: "I wish the Civic traded a slice of performance for a bit more refinement. I’m also annoyed that for all its swoopy good looks and futuristic interior, the Civic remains a pretty conventional car." (review)
The cube: "The cube’s engine makes it move, and that’s fine. It’s not the point — this square is more than the sum of its parts." (review)

Community review: 2001 Kia Sephia
Banovsky on July 8, 2009
Every now and then, we'd like to highlight some of the great reviews our community members write at vLane.
Reviewer Tetra says of her 2001 Kia Sephia that:
I’ve had this car for quite a long time and we’ve been through a lot of things together and I’ve always enjoyed myself.
And goes on to say this about winter driving:
I live where it gets crazy during the winter and this car doesn’t really have amazing winder handling. I would more like to say that you wouldn’t drive, but you would subtly slide your way to your destination.

Kia Soul x Adult Swim
Banovsky on May 6, 2009
Kia has partnered with graffiti artist Hense and late-night cartoon purveyors Adult Swim to giveaway a customized Kia Soul.
While not everyone's cup of tea, I love the paint work — reminds me of the earliest BMW Art Cars. I'd much rather see a car with a personality than with big wheels, a stereo, and tacky add-ons.
You can win this car as of June 1; so get over to the microsite. Click through for more pics.

Feature: Busan Ballers; 10 years of Korean luxury
Derek Kreindler on April 10, 2009
Amid the debuts at this year's New York International Auto Show, one vehicle stood out for its ostentatious luxury and overall bling factor: the Hyundai Equus. While the new Equus shares a common architecture with the Hyundai Genesis sedan, previous versions were part of a "Korean luxury sedan" formula shared by Hyundai, Daewoo, Kia, and SsangYong.
Much like the original Korean forays into the North American market, these vehicles were built off of decade-old second rate Japanese (or German in the case of Daewoo/SsangYong) running gear, and then packed to the gills with Maybach-esque equipment like massage-seats, curtains and crude navigation systems. Here's a look at a luxury sedan from each of the three main players in Korea's auto industry. Click through for more hilarity…and commercials!
