Upcoming: #carchat 24; August 19 @ 8PM EST
Banovsky on August 19, 2009
This week, we're talking about the amazing turn of events, apparently based in Twitter chatter, that led to the demise of the (lame) Buick CUV. We also talk about other models we'd kill with 140-character tweets, and our predictions for the North American Car of the Year 2010. That and more on this week's #carchat!
If you're confused, check out the #carchat How-To. Anyone can join us at 8PM EST August 19, but you'll need a Twitter account to ask questions and participate.
However, if you'd like to follow things live, go here at 8 PM EST.
And if you'd like to suggest topics for next week, please tag articles on Delicious.com with "carchat."
This week:

Future Buick CUV to be a plug-in hybrid
Banovsky on August 6, 2009
Remember our Future of GM series? The one where we talked about the upcoming Buick CUV? Turns out, our analysis was pretty much dead-on.
The teaser shot GM released along with some details shows a clearly reworked front-end from the current Saturn Vue. GM CEO Fritz Henderson's assertion that he's not a fan of badge engineering is getting weaker by the second, as this new model is undeniably a re-badged Saturn Vue plug-in hybrid.
With that model due out in the market next year before Saturn was sold means the development work on the Buick must nearly be completed.
Look for this mystery Buick early next year in showrooms.
Click through for the GM release.

Would you buy a Chevrolet Caprice?
Banovsky on July 20, 2009
I have a growing opinion that the General Motors CEO, Fritz Henderson, is an interesting character. I'm sure he's a wonderful choice on the company side of things — but he hasn't shown that he understands good product.
Bob Lutz, the new marketing chief at GM, championed the Pontiac G8's entry into North America a few years ago. It's a brilliant car. So, when asked if it would die with the Pontiac brand a few weeks ago, he said, "We're studying the feasibility of bringing (the G8) in as a Caprice for both law enforcement and the public."
Then CEO Fritz Henderson, once quoted as saying the company would kill the G8 along with Pontiac because he isn't "a fan of rebranding," presumably got Lutz in his office. A few days later, Lutz said this to the media:
"…The G8 will not be a Caprice after all. I'd mentioned it, and said we were studying it, giving it a serious look, because a car like the G8 was just too good to waste…We simply cannot make a business case for such a program. Not in today's market, in this economy, and with fuel regulations what they are and will be."
Here at vLane, we do think the G8 is too good to waste. Our reviewers have said of the G8, "Best car for the money", "I test drove one last week and was VERY Impressed", and "Dirty hot." Oh, and over 50 per cent of respondents called it the "Best car Pontiac makes."
Let's ask again…
