2010 Dodge Ram Heavy Duty
Banovsky on November 2, 2009
I'll confess: I'm not of a truck guy. The only thing I've towed was a small trailer behind a golf cart. Lame, I know. But I do completely understand the need for many people to have a truly formidable work truck. The 2010 Dodge Ram HD looks like it will impress in that respect.
Here are some stats:
- 2010 Dodge Ram 2500 regular cab ST 4x2 with an 8-foot box has a starting MSRP of $28,165 (including $950 destination) or $1,970 less than the 2009 model
- Optional 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel engine, which produces 350 horsepower at 3,000 rpm and 650 lb-ft. of torque at only 1,500 rpm
- 2010 Dodge Ram Heavy Duty is available for the first time with an available crew-size cab
- Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups offer the only standard exhaust brake on diesel models in the segment
- With the Max Tow Package, Gross Combines Weight Rating increases to 25,400 pounds on 3500 dually models

Recap: #carchat 19; July 15, 2009
Banovsky on July 17, 2009
Social media is such a cool thing that we're constantly evolving how we communicate. Take #carchat: the first few originated out of a spirited conversation.
Since #carchat is ever-evolving, we've included the recap here on vLane as a discussion thread, and we feel it suits the nature of the discussion well — and you can see that we had a huge response over two hours — despite Twitter being down over the first hour!
Anyone can join us each week at 8PM EST on Twitter. And if you'd like to suggest topics, please tag articles on Delicious.com with "carchat."
We had:
- Ask the Expert: Seth Leitman, clean energy and electric vehicle expert
- Discussion: GM and Chrysler updates
- Discussion: What's good interior design?
- Discussion: Maybe we'll talk some #NGM talk…
So? What are you waiting for? Click through to the recap.

The BMW drive experience
AshleyW on June 5, 2009
When I first pulled up to the area of Downsview Park in Toronto, Canada, where this event would take place I saw all these BMWs — and I had no idea what to expect. Would I get to drive each and every one of them? Luckily for me and the many other people who attended, we pretty much did.
We were given an introduction by Saladin Karl, senior event marketing specialist, Driver Training for BMW Canada. He has been with BMW for fourteen years, and with BMW Canada for the last two years. He pointed out to us that we would get to experience driving BMW sports sedans and BMW sports sedan powered by diesel. He also said we would get to drive and compare three other cars that are in direct competition with BMW, a Mercedes, Audi and Lexus. Next was a very informative presentation by Chief Driving Instructor Pierre Savoy. He has held this role for the last eight years and has been putting on driving events with BMW for the last 17 years.

News: Garbage trucks to use waste as fuel
AshleyW on May 27, 2009
Trecking garbage back and forth from Metro Vancouver to a landfill in Cache Creek, British Columbia will now be done in a cleaner way thanks to Wastech Services Limited.
It sounds like a bit of an oxymoron; a garbage truck using the waste it normally transports as fuel, but it has proven to be an efficient way to cut down on carbon emissions. How it works? Methane gas is taken from underneath the ground beneath the landfill. It is then refined and turned into liquid natural gas also known as LNG. One truck has already been tested using the liquefied natural gas as fuel for the 250 km distance to the landfill from Vancouver. There are a total of 28 trucks that carry garbage to the landfill in Cache Creek and they will be converted to use LNG instead of diesel.
By using liquefied natural gas the estimate in the reduction of carbon emissions is approximately 7,000 tonnes per year. IMW industries is producing the natural gas compressor technology for the engines within the trucks built by Westport Innovations, located in Vancouver.

News: Audi now has LEDs on everything they sell
Banovsky on April 14, 2009
Color us unimpressed. Sure, the Q7 has been refreshed for 2010. Sure, it's more capable. Sure, it's been updated to the latest technology — but doesn't anyone else think that the whole "Audi LED driving light" trend has got to stop?
What's new? LED front driving lights, two new paint colors, "chrome enhancements" inside, updated MMI navigation system, and updated engines.
Actually, the new MMI system is pretty cool. Audi says, "voice inputs such as "I'm hungry," "I need money," "I need gas" and "I need coffee" will point to closest options within current vicinity." What about, "I need booty call?"

Swiss hits: The most responsible cars of the Geneva auto show
Banovsky on March 6, 2009
Yesterday we looked at the most "irresponsible" cars at the Geneva auto show. Today, I've compiled a list of ten cars that prove you can still have performance, capability, and expression — just in slightly greener and "smarter" packages.
The most important thing is that many of these cars are in production or will be put into production soon. Some are test-beds for production-ready technology. And one is among the fastest cars on the planet. Click through to see the list, in no particular order.

Review: 2009 BMW 335d, Day 7
Banovsky on March 2, 2009
Diesels, much like reading about cars on the Internet, have always been a novel idea. Sure, there are companies who have stood by their craft (like Volkswagen), but for the most part, good diesels have been few and far between in North America.
Day 7: An overview of the improved iDrive system
So have good automotive reviews. I love the work of Dan Neil, Jeremy Clarkson, Ezra Dyer, and Jack Baruth like many of you, but feel automotive journalists "on the whole" could be doing more.
With incredible technology at our disposal in the 21st century — audio recording, video, and picture-taking abilities in cell phones to name but one — and very progressive management here at vLane, I'd like to provide readers with exactly what they'd like to see.
Starting this week, with the all-new (and hotly-anticipated) BMW 335d as the first car, I'll be posting short, snippet-style updates using our "Discuss" feature.
If you have a question or comment regarding the car, let me know. As always, on my Twitter feed I tag comments about cars I'm driving with #wid, so anyone can keep up with my latest insights. Want more? Do you want to hear the car idle? What about a quick runthrough of the new iDrive? Or maybe a picture of the engine bay? Send your requests and I'll do what I can to fulfill them…
Well, everything but hand you the keys!
Click through to the discussion to learn more about my time with the 335d!
