Toyota FT-86 concept
Banovsky on October 8, 2009
I think I can speak for enthusiasts everywhere when I say this car must be built.
Hailed as a spiritual successor to the legendary "AE-86" Corolla GT-S, this FT-86 concept mates reader drive, a Subaru derived flat-4 cylinder engine, and rear wheel drive.
Styling? Well, that's a home run. Simple yet aggressive, you'd never mistake this sports car for a Hyundai Genesis coupe, or a Volkswagen GTI, its natural competition.
We'll tell you more about this car once it's shown at the Tokyo Motor Show, but for now, what vehicle is its biggest competition?

What the…? Audi's e-TRON concept
Banovsky on September 14, 2009
Ok, so Audi's going to show this, their R8-based electric car concept, at the Frankfurt Motor Show, tomorrow. Why do we think it might be special? Audi keeps saying it'll be "electricity, untamed."
Though it looks like some low-rider enthusiasts mounted the rims, everything else is essentially a smoothed-over R8. Audi's microsite, at electricityuntamed.com (thanks, stergios!), gives facts that electricity "travels at speeds more than 670 million mph."
We'd be happy if this Audi was faster than a Tesla Roadster. Just sayin'.

Wow: The 2010 Bugatti Galibier 16C Concept
Banovsky on September 14, 2009
Although Bugatti's current president, Dr. Ing. Franz-Josef Paefgen says that this Bugatti Galibier 16C "is one of several concept studies with which the company is considering for the future of the Bugatti marque," we can't help but think it's a brilliant car that should be built.
How stunning is this car? The body is constructed of handmade carbon fibre parts coloured dark blue so that when illuminated, the woven structure shimmers through. The front fenders and all doors are made from polished aluminium.
What else? Beneath the butterfly hood (which folds back from both sides), is a 16-cylinder, 8-litre engine with two-stage supercharging…that can run on ethanol. Bugatti says, "four-wheel drive, specially developed ceramic brakes and a new suspension design enable the agile, always-sure handling of a saloon of this size."
Inside, the dash is simple but luxurious: two centrally-located main instruments keep even the rear passengers constantly informed of the actual speed and "previous performance." (Women always keep track of that, anyway… -Ed.) Bugatti says that Parmigiani, the Swiss maker of fine watches, created a removable Reverso Tourbillon clock for the car, which may be worn on the wrist thanks to a cleverly designed leather strap.

The oh-so-hot Mini Cooper Coupe Concept
Banovsky on August 26, 2009
Usually I like practical things. Like wagons. But in this case, since Mini decided to ditch the rear seats, practicality isn't a quality the (*cough* production-ready) Cooper Coupe has to embody.
Even by ditching the upright hatchback, the looks are love-it-or-leave it, admittedly. I love it. People are giving the rear spoiler some hate, saying it looks "tacked-on"…but it actually follows and is integrated into the roofline. Pretty swank. Also swank are the interior appointments, subtly altered from normal Minis.
Will they build it? I hope so. It'd give budget sports cars like the Mazda Miata, Hyundai Genesis Coupe, and lower trims of the Audi TT a run for their money.

Jalopnik drives the Corvette Stingray concept
Banovsky on August 13, 2009
It must be nice to live in Detroit…at least for one day out of the year. Jalopnik editor-in-chief Ray Wert got to drive the Transformers 2-featured and pretty-damn-sexy Corvette Stingray concept.
Wert says in his writeup that the Stingray is older than one may think.
You see, the Stingray was actually first sketched over six years ago, predating both the Camaro and even the C6.
But how was the car to drive?
It's a multi-million dollar one-off concept car driven at 15-20 MPH, how do you think it felt to drive? Right. It felt awesome, which is exactly how it should feel.

Girls just wanna have fun on the hood of a Chevy Volt
Banovsky on August 11, 2009
After reading Jalopnik's post on awkward car / celebrity poses, I noticed my favourite strange celebrity, Cyndi Lauper, was missing.
Taken at the Grammy awards last year, the photo features a revolutionary concept car and a middle-aged pop star posing awkwardly on the hood…like she's 18 or something.
