Video: Lada Canada stunt team
Banovsky on October 21, 2009
We're just as surprised as you are. Sure Russian manufacturer Lada sold cars in Canada, but we don't remember any stunt driving demonstrations!
This short video is pretty tame by modern standards — and I'm sure the vehicles were "strengthened" in many key areas — but really…stunts with cars are always awesome!
Without further adieu, click through for the video!

The secret world of cars and tents
Banovsky on October 16, 2009
It started with the photo you see below. A Sunday morning browse of Chrysler's press photo archive turned up a photo of the "Magic Camper" package, available on the 1985 Plymouth Voyager. "Hmm…" I wondered, "How many car companies offer tents for their vehicles?" The results may surprise you.
If I'm honest, I gave up searching for OEM tent packages. There are simply too many. From laughing at the Chervrolet Nova 6 "Hutch" package (that turns an open hatchback into a three-sided cheese slice tent), to marvelling at the ingenuity of the Honda Element's available "curtains" — it seems outdoorsy people work at nearly every car company.
So without further adieu, click through for a gallery of my favourites.

Silly old ad: This Jeep has two business ends
Banovsky on October 15, 2009
I love campy old ads. This one, for the Willys-Overland 'Jeep' — yes, from before AMC and Chrysler ownership — touts the practicalities of the military-bred machine for farm use and chores.

Silly old ad: Subaru 360 in America
Banovsky on September 22, 2009
Malcolm Bricklin is an interesting guy. After making enough capital from the family Handyman business, he decided to import Subarus into North America. Then, the created his own sports car, the Bricklin SV-1. Now, he's still trying to bring a low-cost car into the U.S. market.
Until that happens, though, we can look at some of the ads he used to entice Americans to open up Subaru franchises of their own. Yes, they're campy. Yes, they're cheesy. And yes, you can win a trip to Japan!

Finally, some old school Mercedes-Benz tuning!
Banovsky on August 28, 2009
I just love this car. What's the point of throwing 24-inch rims on a brand-new S-Class when everyone on your block is doing the same thing? So much of the appeal in modifying a vehicle is doing something unique, and this 1983 Mercedes-Benz 560SE by Inden Design is exactly what I'm talking about.
Ok, so this isn't a recently tuned vehicle. Back in 1991, Inden Design tuned this, their first project car. With a new (1986) front clip with the rest of the car from 1983, even in '91 it wasn't a new car!
The mods list is simple, subtle, and timeless. Blacked-out everything, lowered suspension, widened fenders, 18-inch wheels, steamroller rear tires, warmed-over 6.0-litre V8 with 368 horsepower, and AP Racing brakes.
Inside, it's all class: a black leather interior, different wood trim, and sport seats.
Since Inden design decided to photograph one of their earliest models, we've decided to put up a small collection of photos, after the jump.

We were browsing the Cadillac media archives, and came across this lovely image we'd like to share…
The image above displays some vehicle accessories you could have ordered with your Eldorado Brougham, such as:

- Ladies' compact with powder puff, comb, and mirror

Yes, those were the days…

From the archive: the Ford Indigo
Banovsky on July 21, 2009
On today's news that Ford will unleash a 230 horsepower 2.0-litre turbocharged EcoBoost engine in the next year, we thought we'd remember a time when the company was producing cars with lots of power.
Thirteen short years ago, Ford launched this, the Indigo Concept. Powered by a 6.0-litre V12 motor with 435 horsepower, the car had the "go" along with the "show." LED lights, open-wheel chassis, and scissor-style doors completed the look. Ford built two cars, one show car and one working prototype, which they still own. The show car was auctioned.
Ford even produced the motor, and it now resides under the hoods of the 12-cylinder supercars designed and built by Aston Martin.

Too good to waste: The Car movie trailer
Banovsky on July 21, 2009
I mostly keep my movie watching consistent with Michael Bay destruct-a-thons like Transformers: 2, and sappy romantic comedies like Because I Said So, but this movie may change all of that.
The Car, apparently a 70s movie, apparently starring James Brolin, and apparently about a satanic car, looks like a good movie…
…if you like your movies full of cheesy stunts, dialogue, and a plot thinner than copy paper.
And if you're wondering how I found this trailer, it was a combination of late-night blog viewing, Red Bull, and a healthy dose of boredom. I haven't yet tracked the film down, so please: if you've seen it, let us know in the comments!
Click through for the hilarious trailer.
