Preview: 2010 Cadillac SRX
Banovsky on June 10, 2009
Looks like Cadillac is right-sizing the range. The slow-selling rear-drive SRX "Sport" utility will be replaced this fall with the more compact and V6-only SRX crossover.
Moving the vehicle closer to the Lexus RX has advantages, especially considering the new package should provide more luxury and more efficiency. In front or all-wheel-drive, the two engine choices are between a new, standard, 3.0L direct injected V-6 engine is standard and an optional 2.8L turbocharged V-6 (as-found in Saab 9-3 Aero XWD models.)
Power? The standard direct-injected 3.0L V-6 delivers 265 horsepower — more than the base motor on the old SRX — with 10-15 per cent better fuel economy. The optional turbocharged motor should make close to 300 horsepower, and a whole whack of torque. Both engines are hooked to a six-speed automatic transmission.
The 2010 SRX will also seat five, and can tow up to 2,500 pounds. (1,587 kg).
Read on for more, including a mini-gallery.

The Cadillac CTS Wagon (and why we don’t need it)
Banovsky on June 9, 2009
Make no mistake about it, wagons are the red-headed stepchildren of any car range. Probably conceived in a dank corner of an automaker’s R & D lab, complete with trollish engineers, clip boards, and antiques. Lots of antiques.
As such, only terminally crazy and socially-inept Northeastern Birkenstock-shod buyers drive them. I swear, on my last trip through Maine (one never stops, for fear of being consumed by Cliff Bar-chewing, Apple-using hillbillies), there were dozens of stores selling “Sports Antiquities.” All, natch, with Saab, Volvo XC, or Subaru wagons badly parked out front.
You know what? I love wagons. But I also live in the Northeast. You know what else? I have enough money to feed my belly and cat, but not at the same time. Therefore, I am not in the market for a luxury Cadillac CTS Wagon.
The problem? Nobody will be in the market for a Cadillac CTS Wagon.
