2011 Bentley Mulsanne
Banovsky on August 17, 2009
I know, I know. 'Tis the season of auto reveals. We've had the Hyundai Equus, Jaguar XJ, Infiniti M, and now this, the 2011 Bentley Mulsanne. The Mulsanne replaces the Arnage at the top of the Bentley totem pole, and what a car it is.
Details are scarce, but the new super-Bentley will be powered by a V8 engine and go head-to-head with the Rolls Royce Phantom and (to some extent) the Maybach 57. Bentley touts the Mulsanne as the pinnacle of Bentley, and will likely be priced as such, with a full compliment of ridiculous luxury car options to suit. More details in the fall.

Romero Britto x Bentley Continental GT
Banovsky on July 8, 2009
A few dabs of paint here and there can make an awesome-looking custom car — like the Adult Swim x Kia Soul — or something like this…
Created for the Brazilian artist's "Come to my World" exhibition in Berlin, Germany, this Continental GT has been given a super-happy makeover.
This non-moving display prototype can be seen at the Romero Britto exhibition, hosted by the Automobil Forum Unter den Linden in cooperation with the Mensing Gallery, on from 10 July until 6 September 2009. If you really like it, it'll be auctioned soon after.
Romero says the GT, "…is the most beautiful and elegant car in the world. The lines of the new design are perfect to paint as a clean canvas. What a way to start a fascinating and colourful journey.”

Old school Bentleys on the road
Fred Cox on July 1, 2009
It's not often you see a museum worthy car being driven at all, much less on the road where gawking drivers can run into them, but here are a couple of 80 year old Bentleys in all their glory.
I was lucky enough to come across these on Vancouver Island last week. They had just returned from an adventure up the West Coast of Canada and Alaska with other Bentleys of various vintages. According to the event's website, one of these cars had 13 tire changes, so it wasn't easy going by any means.
These were the days before almost any safety rules or equipment existed, so no bumpers, even. Active safety was the word of the day.

Recycle your…Bentley?
Banovsky on May 14, 2009
Bentleys are all about excess, from the multiple-farms worth of cows used to line the interior, to the army of men armed with saws to cut the dashboard's wood veneer.
The 630 horsepower, turbocharged 12-cylinder Bentley Continental Supersports — with a top speed of 204 mph. It will run on E85 ethanol biofuel…and is 85 per cent recyclable.
Still, they've just announced that their Continental range is 85 per cent recyclable (or 95 per cent "recoverability"), becoming one of the first luxury vehicle ranges to reach that milestone, as well as offering environmental-friendly recycling or recovery at the end of the car’s life.
"Our environment policy is based on sustainable principles and we take a holistic view of the whole process. At the design stage we consider the environmental impact of all components over the entire life of the car. This is despite the fact that over 70% of all Bentleys ever produced are still in existence - our cars tend to end up as collectors' items rather than scrap. This is part of our responsibility as a car maker to contribute to environmental improvements, as demonstrated by this certification." — Dr. Arno Homburg, head of whole vehicle development at Bentley Motors

News: Aston Martin Rapide (partially) revealed
Banovsky on April 14, 2009
Ah, to be
young againrich. Sure, the latest four-door Aston Martin looks like all the rest, but does it have what it takes to compete with other so-called "four-door coupes"?
According to Aston Martin, the Rapide will be powered by a version of Aston Martin's 6.0-liter V12 engine, producing 470 horsepower — to the rear wheels — through a paddle-operated six-speed Touchtronic automatic transmission.
But what about its competition? Which is the coolest four-door coupe or sports sedan on the market today?

Swiss Miss: The 10 most irresponsible concepts in Geneva
Banovsky on March 5, 2009
I love auto shows. I love the promise of a better future for cars. I love when designers stretch their ideas around four wheels. But, alas, these 10 cars shown this week at the Geneva motor show embody nothing lovable. Automakers and vehicle tuners, apparently, still have money — and instead of using talent and energy to create sustainable vehicles, they created these supermegapowerfulluxurymonsters.
But all is not lost. Tomorrow, we'll take a look at the ten best vehicles, all of which are worthy of praise. Click through to see the list, in no particular order.
