  • vLane reviews: 2010 Chevrolet Camaro

    Banovsky on November 2, 2009

Here at vLane, we've got the opportunity to sample some pretty amazing machinery. But none have been more polarizing in the last year than the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro. We've all driven both the V6 and V8-powered models…and our opinions couldn't be more split. Take a look at what I'm talking about…

vLane's take on the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro:

Herman says: "Starting with the cashier at the airport Park-N-Fly where I was picking up the vehicle, everybody had something to say or ask about the Camaro. She had been looking at the car sitting on the lot all day, and had come up with a dozen questions to ask me. I hadn't driven nor even seen the Camaro yet, so I didn't have much to say about the car at that point. As the valet pulled the car up and handed me the keys, he immediately started asking about the car's performance, though he had driven the car more than I had (all the way across the parking lot). It had been a long time since I saw so much interest and curiosity about a new vehicle…I was excited." link

Michael says: "And trunk space? Those sexy, sculpted, naughtier-than-Sasha Grey rear fenders come at a price: there isn’t much trunk space. The opening is too small, the trunk itself is too shallow, and — though the rear seats fold down — the pass-through isn’t American Tourister (let alone Parisian Tourister) worthy." link

Stergios says: "Personally, I prefer the looks of the 1LT base model: understated, mild mannered, and polite, for the every day driving experience. The SS2 Bumble Bee paint schema was a bit much for me to handle on a day-to-day basis, but something that would have much more appeal if this were my weekend ride." link

Fred says: "All-American car companies are looking for the way out of this mess they are in, and we think that developing modern, efficient cars with great performance, handling, and looks are the way to go." link

Derek says: "The Camaro is a synecdoche, a symbol of the new, vastly improved GM. But like the GM of old, the Camaro engineers forgot to put in that last little bit of effort that would make the car great." link

  • 2010 Dodge Ram Heavy Duty

    Banovsky on November 2, 2009

I'll confess: I'm not of a truck guy. The only thing I've towed was a small trailer behind a golf cart. Lame, I know. But I do completely understand the need for many people to have a truly formidable work truck. The 2010 Dodge Ram HD looks like it will impress in that respect.

  • From around the web: 2010 Lexus LF-A

    Banovsky on November 2, 2009

Oh, we're not bitter that we haven't yet driven the supercar-slaughtering Lexus LF-A. Oh no. We're just very, very jealous of those who have. Seriously, I may buy a lottery ticket with the hopes of spending part of the jackpot on a dark green-painted LF-A. Anyhow, Let's see what the lucky bastards gentlemen had to say.

    2010 Lexus LF-A reviews

Jalopnik.com says: "An over enthusiastic application of the sharp throttle had the 552 HP, 4.8-liter V10 spinning rapidly towards its 9,500 RPM redline and the tail sliding out towards the grass. Normally that'd have been an oh-&#!@-I'm-going-to-break-a-$400K-car moment, especially in an unfamiliar supercar, but in the LFA it barely requires conscious correction as it just blended into rocketing down the following straight at three-figure speeds."

Autoblog.com says: "Generally, when I come off of a new track after a few hot laps in anything – Versa or Veyron – my hands are a bit shaky and my legs a little on the wobbly side. With the LFA, it feels like I just re-robed after a Swedish massage."

Autocar.co.uk says: "What’s more impressive though, is that the LFA has a character of its own, rather follow a preset supercar template. That it is more solidly constructed than anything Italian, and less flamboyant, is perhaps to be expected from a Lexus. What’s surprising though is how honed and sharp it feels to drive. While it has GT qualities it’s no soft-edged GT. Instead it is a serious and credible supercar."

And finally, Autocar has a video of the LF-A in action on their site; it's well worth a look.

  • Toyota FT-86 concept

    Banovsky on October 8, 2009

I think I can speak for enthusiasts everywhere when I say this car must be built.

    toyota ft-86 concept

    Toyota FT-86 concept

Hailed as a spiritual successor to the legendary "AE-86" Corolla GT-S, this FT-86 concept mates reader drive, a Subaru derived flat-4 cylinder engine, and rear wheel drive.

Styling? Well, that's a home run. Simple yet aggressive, you'd never mistake this sports car for a Hyundai Genesis coupe, or a Volkswagen GTI, its natural competition.

We'll tell you more about this car once it's shown at the Tokyo Motor Show, but for now, what vehicle is its biggest competition?

  • 2010 Volkswagen GTI pricing announced

    Banovsky on October 6, 2009

Packing the same horsepower (200) and torque (207 lb.-ft) as the 2009 model, the better-looking 2010 GTI rings in at $23,990.

    2010 volkswagen gti

    2010 Volkswagen GTI

That's for the two-door. If you want the top-line four-door with the DSG, prepare to save up $25,690 — barely changed from the current model.

A GTI equipped with the dual-clutch DSG gearbox will return 32 mpg on the highway, and 24 mpg in the city — not too shabby for a high-performance hatchback.

Two packages stand out: the "Dynaudio Advanced Sound" package for $476, and the "Autobahn" package for $2,795 — that includes partial leather seats, sunroof, and front sport seats.

  • Europe still gets all the fun: Fiat 500 Abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari

    Banovsky on September 21, 2009

"OK," you ask, "why is this car cool while the Aston Martin Cygnet concept isn't?"

    2010 fiat 500 abarth 695 tributo ferrari

The 2010 Fiat 500 Abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari

Well, this performance-orientated Abarth 695 'Tributo Ferrari' will go on sale, and FIAT has made some substantial modifications to ensure it lives up to the prancing horse badge.

First, the special edition model is fitted with a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine tuned to develop "over 180 horsepower". The four-cylinder unit is coupled to an electromechanical gearbox with race-inspired paddle gearshift that drives the front-wheels.

Add in some performance tires, 17-inch alloy wheels, a more powerful braking system with Brembo callipers, and a sportier suspension set up with new shock absorbers. Oh, and for annoying the neighbours it comes with a "Record Monza" dual mode exhaust that is designed to improve engine performance "and deliver a more sonorous note over 3,000 rpm." Finishing touches include Xenon headlights, Scuderia Red paint, carbon fibre accents, lighter sport seats, leather-clad interior, and various aluminum trim pieces.

We want. How much are Italian villas going for these days?

  • Wow: The 2010 Bugatti Galibier 16C Concept

    Banovsky on September 14, 2009

Although Bugatti's current president, Dr. Ing. Franz-Josef Paefgen says that this Bugatti Galibier 16C "is one of several concept studies with which the company is considering for the future of the Bugatti marque," we can't help but think it's a brilliant car that should be built.

    2010 bugatti galibier concept

    The 2010 Bugatti Galibier super-sedan

How stunning is this car? The body is constructed of handmade carbon fibre parts coloured dark blue so that when illuminated, the woven structure shimmers through. The front fenders and all doors are made from polished aluminium.

What else? Beneath the butterfly hood (which folds back from both sides), is a 16-cylinder, 8-litre engine with two-stage supercharging…that can run on ethanol. Bugatti says, "four-wheel drive, specially developed ceramic brakes and a new suspension design enable the agile, always-sure handling of a saloon of this size."

Inside, the dash is simple but luxurious: two centrally-located main instruments keep even the rear passengers constantly informed of the actual speed and "previous performance." (Women always keep track of that, anyway… -Ed.) Bugatti says that Parmigiani, the Swiss maker of fine watches, created a removable Reverso Tourbillon clock for the car, which may be worn on the wrist thanks to a cleverly designed leather strap.

  • 2010 Porsche 911 Sport Classic, with video

    Banovsky on September 4, 2009

Ok, I wasn't going to post on the not-available-in-North America 911 Sport Classic, an homage to the 1972 911 2.7 RS. But then, courtesy of our friends at carscoop.blogspot.com, the model's B-roll video was encoded and uploaded to YouTube, and what a sound it is. If you're going to listen to one song this year, make sure it was composed by the 2010 911 Sport Classic…
