Entertain Me! 3 Favorite Car Ads that Really Drive Me to Drive

Ads that made me look (and think about buying the car)

Car advertising budgets are usually through the roof for most car manufacturers, and with good reason—the highly stylized ads bring out the car enthusiast in most of us. The filmed twists and turns of snaking roads and countryside and ocean whizzing by is enough to make most people imagine what it’s like to be behind the wheel of that kind of high-performance machine.

Here are my personal Top 3 advertising campaigns:

  1. BMW's John Woo/Clive Owen Series

If someone told me I'd be watching a 9-minute BMW car commercial with rapt interest I'd laugh at them—that is, before I actually sat down and watched these Jon Woo-directed film shorts that carry an interesting storyline and make me believe that BMW is truly a superior driving machine. Clive Owen stars as the lead man of mystery who saves the day. Check out the final installment, .
  2. Honda Accord's Sum of its Parts

This unbelievable real-time and 100% real (no CGI!) 2-minute chain of events ad from Honda required 606 takes and $6 million dollars over three months to shoot. A classic.
  3. Scion Interactive Window Ad

Check out this cool, interactive ad for Scion where urban pedestrians can play with bubbles to try to catch a Scion. Kind of makes you wonder if driving the car would be just as fun.
