Ahhhh! One less awesome '59 Chevy in the world.

Not surprised at the result. When folks say they'd like to be in their old car in a crash due to the added mass, I think they're nuts. I'll put my little Mazda3 against the biggest tanks of the 50's. The Bel-Air outweighs the Malibu by 200 lbs (except the LTZ model, which for some reason is 200 lbs heavier than the others) and folded like cheap card table.

The Bel Air wouldn't have had seat belts unless they were specially installed, so it's interesting that the dummy wasn't ejected. I would like to have seen some after pictures of each passenger compartment.

"we salute the insurance industry"? They could have demanded all they wanted, but without all those smart people who created a better car, it would all just be hot air! Why not give them a little credit, too?

Okay, ranty part done. I love this video... and I with salguod... I'll take my Vibe, too.

I say "FIX!". This looks like a carefully engineered test to yield the desired results. I wonder how it would have turned out if it had been a true head-on collision?

I love old cars, I had a 59 Caddy before my Ram but I can honestly say that crash test was real. A head on would have resulted just the same too. Modern cars are designed to be safer...end of story. The guy riding around in 59 would not have had a belt on even if he had specified them, they were the rarist of options. My 59 Cad had the same X frame chassis and I know for a fact it would have been like warm butter in a crash. You just have to cherish your old car and not hit anything in them, that's all. LOL
