Talkin' About the Car Wash

Is there anything more American than the drive-through car wash? A visit to one can actually be sort of a mini vacation (there's something very relaxing about the experience, unless you undertake it with kids in the car, in which case it's something else entirely.) Nonetheless, with more people staying home from vacation this Summer and Fall, why not take a mini-break to the car wash? The following are themed car washes that throw a little something extra into the experience:

1. 1. Castle Car Wash, Long Beach, CA

   The Castle Car Wash looks like.. a castle. You don't get to drive through but the theme carries over to the wait room. It might not thrill you, but it could thrill any companions you might have under the age of eight.


2. 2. Grand Prix Car Wash , Deerfield, IL

   The Grand Prix Car Wash might not be much to look at from the outside, but it's really about the performance art. The people servicing your car dress like pit crew at a race, and approach the job with the same haste.


3. 3. Rainforest Car Wash Lafayette, IN

   The Rainforest Car Wash manages to hold its theme as you travel through the car wash, so you pass through jungle, by animals, and to a treasure trove while your car gets clean.


4. 4. Delta Queen Car Wash, Campbell, CA

   Delta Queen claims to be the first themed car wash in the U.S., shaped like a riverboat.


5. 5. Happy Bays Car Wash, Multiple Locations, AR

   Happy Bays is a 50's themed car wash that has locations around Arkansas. You can purchase your own franchise location for $25,000.


6. 6. Boardwalk Car Wash, Des Plaines, IA

   The Boardwalk Car Wash is a luxury car wash, made to look like a hotel. It's got a lovely cafe, beautiful surroundings, and wait for it, really nice bathrooms.


7. 7. Wilderness Car Wash, Multiple Locations, MI

   Okay, this is really stretching the concept of theme carwash. The Wilderness car wash has some plastic animals in front of it.


8. 8. Showboat Car Wash, St. Augustine, FL

   Why, it's a genuine Mississippi River Boat. In...Eastern Florida. Okay, it's just a replica, but you can get your car washed here.


9. 9. Outback Auto Wash, Ashtabula, OH

   The Outback Auto Wash features a wooden monkey and koala bear that sit on either side of your car and entertain your child while you wash your car.
