Your Own Personal Batmobile

Going to see the new Batman film, The Dark Knight, can trigger one of the uglier emotions; namely jealousy.

While we definitely don't want all of the mayhem, stress and danger to our loved ones that comes with being the Batman, it's hard not to long for his car. Who doesn't want something that shoots flame from its tailpipe and explodes into a motorcycle under catastrophic conditions? Unfortunately most of our budgets can't stretch to cover the cost of the car, the insurance or even the fuel so I've found a few significantly cheaper stand-ins.

Cláudio Dias of Paper Inside has created two fabulous Batmobiles out of paper. While one, his Tumbler, has gotten quite a bit of press since The Dark Knight made its bow, the other one is more obscure, but I like it better. This particular papercraft Batmobile is the 1966 version, all sharp edges, tailfins and red piping. I personally think this one is more attractive than the Tumbler.

If you're worried about getting paper cuts have no fear, I've also managed to track down the directions for a really nice adaptation of Lego's rather anemic Tumbler brick set. Brent Waller is the creator of this beautiful piece of machinery.

And finally, if you find the Joker much more interesting than Batman, you may find this Joker ice cream truck from Lego intriguing. It appears as though the plan is to sell poisoned ice cream to the citizens of Gotham. As a fan of both the Joker and ice cream I'm not sure how I feel about this. If you're conflict free, you can find the brick set here.
